Joy Asasira is the Programme Manager of Campaigns, Partnerships and Networks. She has a solid track record as a women’s health advocate with wide experience in reproductive health policy and health systems strengthening. Joy is the winner of the Best Female Human Rights Lawyer Award at the 5th Annual Women in Law Awards.

Joy Asasira is the Programme Manager of Campaigns, Partnerships and Networks. She has a solid track record as a women’s health advocate with wide experience in reproductive health policy and health systems strengthening. Joy is an Award winner of the Best Female Human Rights Lawyer at the 5th Annual women in  Law Awards, she holds a Masters in Public Health Leadership (Save the Mothers) from Uganda Christian University, a Bachelor of Laws from Makerere University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Center.

Joy is one of the leading Sexual Reproductive Health Rights advocates in Uganda. She is the first and continues to be the coordinator of Uganda’s national multidisciplinary coalition to stop maternal mortality due to unsafe abortion in Uganda for the last 7 years. She has commendable national, regional and global advocacy footprint challenging health policies and practices that negatively impact on the reproductive rights. She is among some of the few advocates from the global south that have appeared before various Senators and House Representatives on Capitol Hill to speak about the devastating effects of the reinstatement of President Trump’s Global Gag Rule.

Joy has also been recognized as an emerging mid-career woman leader in Global Health by the Women Leaders in Global Health, Stanford University (November, 2017). Joy’s key competencies include; advocacy, research, programing using the human rights-based approach, coalition building and coordination, media campaigns, strategic communication, strategic planning, institutional building and capacity building.
