The Center for Health, Human Rights and Development (CEHURD) marked its 14th year of steadfast commitment to advancing social justice in health and human rights in Uganda. In 2024, CEHURD continued leveraging strategic litigation, policy advocacy, evidence-based research, and community empowerment to champion the health rights of vulnerable populations across over 50 districts.
This year saw landmark legal victories, including a groundbreaking High Court ruling holding Mulago National Referral Hospital liable for the disappearance of a newborn, reinforcing the right to health and psychosocial support. CEHURD played a key role in influencing progressive national health policies, notably supporting the launch of Uganda’s National Guideline on Self-Care Interventions. Through strong partnerships, capacity building, and grassroots mobilization, we deepened our advocacy on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender justice, communicable and non-communicable diseases, and mental health.
As we close the chapter on our successful five-year strategic plan, CEHURD is poised to embark on an ambitious 10-year journey, expanding its impact and addressing emerging health and human rights challenges with renewed vigor and innovation.
