Press Release: A Call for More Strategic Health Investments in Uganda’s FY2025/26 Budget

Yesterday, 12th June 2025, Uganda’s Parliament read and debated the national budget for the fiscal year 2025/26, a critical moment for the country’s development priorities, especially in the health sector. The budget outlines allocations amid ongoing challenges such as high maternal mortality, low health insurance coverage, and heavy reliance on donor funding for health services.

While the budget shows an increase in health allocations, the continued heavy reliance on donor funding - over 78% of health sector financing - raises concerns about the sustainability of critical health services.

The budget reading comes at a time when global funding landscapes threaten essential health services, prompting urgent calls for increased domestic financing and strategic investments in health to achieve Universal Health Coverage and improve sexual and reproductive.
